I HAVE NEVER PLAYED BEFORE (or have very little experience):

  • You may want to sign up for a Beginner’s Lesson.  The scheduled times will be posted at the courts and on the ORPS web site.

  • A paddle will be provided for you at beginner lessons if required.

  • Read the USAPA Rules Summary on the bulletin board at the courts, a link will be provided at the bottom of this page.

 

 

I KNOW HOW TO PLAY:

  • Sign-up for morning play courtside:  Court schedules will be posted on the ORPS web site.

  • Check out our Structured Play Schedule posted on the ORPS web site and at the courts.  Session descriptions will help you decide which sessions are for your level of play.

  • Not sure what level you are?  Read over the Skill Level Guidelines posted on the web site under the Player Development Tab. 

  • Skills clinics as they become available will be posted on the ORPS web site.

 

COURT ETIQUETTE:

Pickleball is popular at ORPS (and elsewhere).  These rules help us share in the fun and respect each other:

  • When signing up to play, write your name in the next available spot.  Do not skip ahead leaving unfilled slots.  Stay nearby, so you can move quickly onto the next available court.

  • Move quickly off of the court when your game or reserve time is over.  If you want to play more, sign up again.

  • Please don’t walk through courts.  Go around or wait for a pause in play before walking through.  

  • Line calls are the job of the players on the court where the ball landed.  Do your best to call in and out balls fairly and trust that your opponents will do the same.

  • Shirts and proper shoes are required.  Wear shoes with non-marking soles.  No open-toe shoes or shoes with heavy treads are allowed for safety reasons.

  • Please keep profanity and alcohol off the courts.

  • Be respectful of every player and offer encouragement to others.

 

 

Connect with our pickleball community:

  • Join in the fun at our various social events.  Your spouse or significant other is welcome even if they don’t play.

  • Attend board meetings or share your concerns and ideas with board members.

  • Take every opportunity to greet newcomers, answer questions and promote pickleball here at ORPS.
